The luminaries burned out too fast, it was cold and spitting snow, but the carriage rides around the community park in Center Village on Saturday, December 17, were a tremendous success. Over one hundred people enjoyed the one–third mile ride around the park in the four–seater carriage pulled by Rocky, a black Percheron. Driver Ian and helper Ruth from the Granville Carriage Company, provided conversation and blankets to keep passengers entertained and warm during the ride. Riders were generous in their donations to the Harlem Township Helping Hands organization. The pantry has been refilled and over one hundred dollars is now available to buy more needed items.
Members of Harlem Township Heritage, Inc. decorated the shelter in the park with hundreds of lights, a Christmas tree, an illuminated snowman, lighted reindeer, and garland. There were three fires burning to keep those waiting for their rides warm, and hot chocolate, coffee, and punch plus gingerbread men and other cookies were available for them to enjoy. Everyone, organizers and guests, had a wonderful time.
